Welcome
Welcome to my PLU School of Nursing portfolio. It is my hope that this
site will give you a feeling for the intellectual journey that I have
been on for the past two and one half years at Pacific Lutheran University
School of Nursing. I have been stretched; my horizons have been broadened
and my pre-conceptions challenged; and the new ideas and skills gained
have positively shaped me into (drum roll, please) a nurse. The process
has been difficult—in fact much more difficult than I ever imagined.
It has included the incredible stress of too much to do and not enough
time to get it done; financial pressures; lack of sleep and the inability
to sleep even though exhausted; the continual pressure to perform
new skills in new environments with strangers; never being finished because
there was always more to do and learn; and strained relationships
due
to my workload and stress. But along with the burdens have been the
mountain top experiences that far outweigh the hard parts. I have formed
relationships
that will continue for a lifetime; attained a lifelong goal of earning
a college degree; experienced grace, generosity and support from
my husband and family; and along the way discovered that I was born to
be a nurse.
I have designed this website as a tool to illustrate my progress
toward becoming a registered nurse with a Bachelor Science
in Nursing. Each section addresses one of Pacific Lutheran University’s School
of Nursing program objectives and provides evidence and personal insight
regarding my attainment of each of the seven objectives.

Nursing is an art: and if it is to be
made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a
preparation, as any painter´s or sculptor´s work;
for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble,
compared with having to do with the living body, the temple
of God´s spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had
almost said, the finest of Fine Arts.
